The animals: ranks, cores, contracts, and the genre’s fondness for a beast companion.
94 terms
| Chinese | English | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 灵兽 | Spirit Beast | A beast that cultivates like a person. Can be contracted; cannot be owned. |
| 妖兽 | Demonic Beast | A beast twisted by qi. Hostile by default, and its core is worth money. |
| 凶兽 | Fierce Beast | A beast that kills for no reason. No core worth taking, just danger. |
| 神兽 | Divine Beast | A bloodline beast out of myth. Seeing one is a plot event, not an encounter. |
| 内丹 | Inner Core | The core a beast forms inside its own body. The reason people hunt them. |
| 兽核 | Beast Core | The harvested core, sold by grade. Fuel for pills and artifacts alike. |
| 化形 | Taking Human Form | A beast strong enough to wear a human shape. Usually marks it as a real threat. |
| 血契 | Blood Contract | A binding contract with a beast. Break it and both sides pay. |
| 驭兽 | Beast Taming | The craft of controlling beasts. A specialisation, not a default skill. |
| 兽潮 | Beast Wave | A wave of beasts flooding out of a region. A natural disaster with teeth. |
| 灵兽袋 | Spirit Beast Pouch | A pouch that holds living beasts. Quietly essential for anyone who tames them. |
| 兽王 | Beast King | The strongest beast in a region. Killing it usually ends the tide. |
| 灵宠 | Spirit Pet | A beast raised from the nest rather than bound by contract. Loyal, and useful in ways contracts never are. |
| 战宠 | Battle Beast | A beast bred and trained to fight beside its owner. Expensive to keep, impossible to replace. |
| 契约兽 | Contract Beast | A beast bound by formal contract rather than affection. Reliable until the terms are tested. |
| 主仆契 | Master-Servant Pact | The standard beast contract: obedience in exchange for protection. Read the clauses carefully. |
| 平等契 | Equal Pact | A contract of equals. Almost never offered, and a sign the beast considers you worth its time. |
| 妖王 | Demon King | Ruler of a region's demon beasts. His word is a border treaty nobody wants to test. |
| 妖将 | Demon General | A commander under the demon king. The one who actually arrives first. |
| 半妖 | Half-Demon | Human and beast in one body. Rejected by both sides, and usually stronger than they expect. |
| 化形期 | Transformation Stage | The stage where a beast can take human form. Everything before it is a monster, everything after is a person. |
| 开智 | Awakened Mind | The moment a beast starts thinking like a person. From here it can learn, lie and resent. |
| 血脉压制 | Bloodline Suppression | A higher bloodline forcing a lower one to submit. No fight, just knees. |
| 驯服 | Tame | Beaten into obedience rather than bound by pact. Holds exactly as long as you keep winning. |

| 兽巢 | Beast Nest | Where beasts gather and breed. Eggs, herbs and corpses, all in one place. |

| 兽骨 | Beast Bone | Bone from a demon beast. The default material for anything that needs to hold power. |
| 兽皮 | Beast Hide | Hide taken from a beast. Turns blades, and makes the best talisman paper. |
| 妖植 | Demonic Plant | A plant that hunts. Technically a herb, practically a beast. |
| 灵蝶 | Spirit Butterfly | A small butterfly used for scouting and messages. Too fragile to keep alive long. |
| 灵蜂 | Spirit Bee | Bees that make spirit honey. The hive is a treasure, and it knows it. |
| 灵鹤 | Spirit Crane | A crane of unusual size and dignity. Fast transport, and a status symbol. |
| 灵猿 | Spirit Ape | Strong, clever, and quick to learn. The beast most likely to become a person. |
| 灵蛇 | Spirit Snake | A snake with qi in its blood. Fast, quiet, and venom worth more than its hide. |
| 灵狐 | Spirit Fox | A fox that grows wiser with age. In stories, always smarter than the cultivator. |
| 蛟龙 | Flood Dragon | A dragon that has not yet become one. Vain, violent, and one step from something worse. |
| 真龙 | True Dragon | The top of the bloodline ladder. A single one can define an era. |
| 凤凰 | Phoenix | Rebirth and flame in one creature. Killing it is only ever temporary. |
| 麒麟 | Qilin | A beast that appears only in prosperous ages. Its presence is read as a verdict on the ruler. |
| 青龙 | Azure Dragon | The guardian of the east. One of the four that hold the world steady. |
| 白虎 | White Tiger | The guardian of the west. Associated with killing, and with armies. |
| 朱雀 | Vermilion Bird | The guardian of the south. Fire, summer, and the colour of the sky at the end. |
| 玄武 | Black Tortoise | The guardian of the north. Patience incarnate; nothing hurries it. |
| 神兽血脉 | Divine Beast Bloodline | Blood from one of the great beasts. Awakening it changes what a person can become. |
| 异兽 | Aberrant Beast | A beast belonging to no known line. Nobody can predict what it will do. |
| 上古凶兽 | Ancient Fierce Beast | Something that was sealed rather than killed. Every seal eventually weakens. |
| 兽卵 | Beast Egg | An egg waiting to hatch. Value depends entirely on what comes out. |
| 孵化 | Hatch | Bringing an egg to term. The first thing it sees becomes its whole world. |
| 兽语 | Beast Speech | The ability to speak with beasts. Rare, unglamorous, and worth a kingdom in a forest. |
| 妖兽等级 | Beast Grade | Beasts are ranked one to nine, matching human stages. Encountering a grade above your own is the standard threat. |
| 虫兽 | Insect Beast | Small, numerous, and the cause of a swarm arc. Individually harmless. |
| 兽蜕 | Beast Shedding | Material left behind when a beast advances. Sold as forging stock. |
| 兽契 | Beast Contract | The written or blood agreement behind the bond. Terms matter, and so do loopholes. |
| 兽栏 | Beast Pen | Where a sect keeps its animals. The smell is mentioned exactly once per visit. |
| 兽宠 | Beast Pet | The affectionate term. A beast pet in this genre is either comic relief or the strongest thing in the room. |
| 御兽袋 | Beast Satchel | Carries an animal without the animal knowing. Dimensional space, so the animal ages slower. |
| 骑乘兽 | Mount | Any beast trained to carry a person. Status symbol, and a way to keep a journey interesting. |
| 驮兽 | Pack Beast | Cargo animal. The genre's explanation for how sects move supplies. |
| 守山兽 | Mountain Guardian Beast | Bound to a gate, unable to leave. Older than most of the sect it guards. |
| 护山神兽 | Divine Guardian | The high-end version. Its presence is why a sect has not been attacked in five hundred years. |
| 遗种 | Lingering Bloodline | A beast descended from something much older. Usually looks ordinary until it does not. |
| 唤兽笛 | Beast-Calling Flute | An instrument that summons animals. The tune is a skill check. |
| 铸魂 | Soul Forging | Giving an artifact or a corpse a beast's soul. Common in demon path work. |
| 鳞甲 | Scale Armour | Hide and plates, sold as material. The grade of the beast sets the grade of the armour. |
| 妖兽化形 | Beast Transformation | A sufficiently advanced beast taking human form. When it happens mid-arc, expect a romance subplot. |

| 驯鹰人 | Falconer | The role, not the bird. Common among scouts and scouts' enemies. |
| 守墓兽 | Tomb Guardian | Bound to a burial site. Older than the tomb it guards, usually. |

| 凶兽谷 | Valley of Beasts | A place where the animals decide the rules. Used for low-level training arcs. |
| 兽血浴 | Beast Blood Bath | Bathing in beast blood to strengthen the body. Warm, unpleasant, effective. |
A beast companion is often the only warmth in a four-hundred-chapter book, which makes the renderings matter. Terms track the free cultivation novels at cultivationnovel.com.
