| Chinese | English | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 应龙 | Yinglong | The winged dragon that helped defeat Chiyou and then drained the flood with its tail. Rain-making in this tradition starts with it. |
| 烛九阴 | Zhulong the Ninefold Yin | The torch dragon's fuller title, used for the version that controls seasons rather than days. |
| 相柳 | Xiangliu | The nine-headed snake that ate nine hills and poisoned the land with its blood. Digging up its remains is always a bad idea in fiction. |
| 九婴 | Jiuying | A nine-headed water-fire monster killed by Houyi. Two elements at once, which makes it a boss rather than a beast. |
| 修蛇 | Xiushi | The giant snake that swallowed an elephant. Used as the measure of a monster's appetite. |
| 鹏鸟 | Peng Bird | The bird half of the kunpeng pair, whose wingspan covers a horizon. Flight techniques borrow it for their top speed tier. |
| 大鹏金翅雕 | Golden-Winged Roc | The demon bird that outpaces the monkey king in flight. Its presence proves there is always someone faster. |
| 九头虫 | Nine-Headed Insect | A monster on the pilgrimage route, part insect and part bird. Adaptations give it wings that the original barely mentions. |
| 蝎子精 | Scorpion Demon | The demon that wounded the Buddha with a sting and later the monkey. One hit, lasting damage, no second attempt. |
| 蜈蚣精 | Centipede Demon | The hundred-eyed demon whose glare emits golden light. Beaten by a specific counter, like most of the pilgrimage monsters. |
| 玉兔精 | Jade Rabbit Spirit | The moon rabbit, working in the mortal world under a false identity. Small-scale deception, played for comedy. |
| 六耳猕猴 | Six-Eared Macaque | The fake monkey king who can hear everything and copy anything. A fight that cannot be won by skill, only by proof of identity. |
| 通臂猿猴 | Long-Armed Ape | One of the four spiritual primates, with arms long enough to reach the other side of a fight. Frequently a rival, rarely a friend. |
| 灵明石猴 | Stone Monkey of Bright Spirit | The category the monkey king belongs to, born from stone and aware from birth. The other three primates exist to define him by contrast. |
| 赤尻马猴 | Red-Rumped Horse Monkey | The primate that knows the past and future and avoids death. The cleverest of the four, and the least used. |
| 龙 | Dragon | In this tradition, a river or sea administrator with a bureaucracy and a temper. Not a monster to be slain but a landlord to be negotiated with. |
| 螭龙 | Chilong | A hornless young dragon, often carved on roof ridges. Decorative in life, dangerous when it turns out to be alive. |
| 虬龙 | Qiulong | A dragon with a single horn, associated with restraint. Its scales are a smithing material. |
| 蟠龙 | Panlong | A dragon coiled without ascending. Pillars and seals carry it; so do the more patient villains. |

| 玄武甲 | Black Tortoise Carapace | Shell plate of the northern beast, the standard material for a shield nobody can break. |
| 麒麟血 | Qilin Blood | The blood of the auspicious beast, used to bless weapon refining. It does not make a blade stronger, it makes it legitimate. |
| 凤凰涅槃 | Phoenix Rebirth | Dying in flame and returning. In novels it is a technique, and takes a chapter of preparation. |
| 龙息 | Dragon Breath | The breath of a dragon, usually fire or water depending on the river it lives in. Range is short; effect is final. |
| 龙威 | Dragon Might | The pressure a dragon exerts on everything nearby. Mechanical version of terror, and stackable with other aura effects. |
| 祖龙 | Ancestral Dragon | The first dragon, from which every bloodline descends. Characters who meet it are always changed and rarely improved. |
| 元凤 | Primal Phoenix | The first phoenix, and the origin of rebirth techniques. Its feathers are the standard high-tier crafting material. |
| 始麒麟 | First Qilin | The original auspicious beast. Its appearance is treated as a political endorsement. |
| 烛照 | Zhuzhao | The dragon whose eyes make day. Paired with the next entry as two halves of the same sky. |
| 幽荧 | Youying | The other half, whose gaze makes night. Together they explain why the world has days at all. |
| 白泽图 | Baize's Catalogue | A book of monsters and their weaknesses, attributed to a beast. Owning it is a shortcut to competence. |
